Dermatology Marketing

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

If there has ever been a medical specialty that is in need of competent marketing consultation, a cohesive and long-term strategy, and effective practice growing tools, it is dermatology. The fact is, dermatology marketing takes a wealth of experience to achieve proper results.

We have seen so many good dermatologists go down the same road to ruins… it is called “Playing the Commodity Game” and it is a good way to harm your business, your reputation, and your referrals.

How often do we see coupons offering a special lower price on common services, such as Botox? It seems every dermatologist and Medi-Spa is in a race to see who can lower their prices faster!

But here are some basic principals that should guide you, should you want to play this game;

* Price shoppers are not loyal. They will go to your competitor when their prices are better than yours.

* You need to give your patients and potential patients a reason to choose you, other than price. Are you the best in your area? Do you have some special training or expertise? Do you have a new piece of equipment that is the latest and greatest? Even if your competitors may have the same qualifications and services, if they are not promoting them, then the field is open for you to claim those “points of distinction.”

There are many ways to determine how best to position your practice so that patients have a clear and compelling reason to choose you. However, use caution if you use price as your main method to attract patients… it is a recipe for long-term failure.

Compressed and Printed T-shirts for Brand Awareness

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Compressed T-shirts are a novel idea of marketing and promoting brands and products of a company. Distribution of promotional Compressed T-shirts to clients and prospective customers, and employees  gives them an extra feeling of owning a brand. T-shirts distributed this way serve an act of appreciation by an organization for their kind patronage. The brand may not be world famous for this  purpose. Even new companies have used Compressed T-shirts in their advertising campaigns.

For this purpose, one should be careful when T-shirts are designed. Keep in mind that no person likes to be a walking banner of your brand unless they are comfortable putting them on. And you cannot offer money to your clients for wearing them. The best solution is to create an attractive design with an interesting slogan or word play, that indirectly represents  your brand, and the people will be curious about it. Some marketing companies are expert in designing promotional compressed T-shirts. Approach them to solve your purpose.

When you give compressed or printed T-shirts to your clients or customers, quality will play a significant role. Again, nobody would wear a cheap quality T-shirt though you have given as a gift or because it displays your logo or promotional message. Hence, do not compromise on the quality of T-shirts that you select for free distribution.. They will appreciate your efforts and costs you have paid for it on their behalf.

While organizing a conference, trade show or promotional event, make it compulsory for your staff to wear these T-shirts. It is an economical way to make your employees stand out in the crowd.

You can get promotional Printed T-shirts in a wide range of styles and colors and it not at all difficult to choose its design that will suit your budget and purpose. Try to select well-designed promotional Printed T-shirts that your staff would like to wear even outside the office. This can be an effective way of creating brand awareness at a high level.

Searching through Internet will get you list of companies who are expert in designing promotional T-shirts. They mostly have a great collection of T-shirt designs, and interesting slogans. You just inform them about your requirements, target audience,  budget and they will work out and offer you the best Compressed T-shirts or Printed T-shirts as per your specific needs.

Internet Marketing is Business, not Just Search Engine Algorithms

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Not two weeks ago I had a chat with someone (an SEO) about some online media buying and although the figures made an infinite amount of sense (6 figure monthly page views – prime location banner purchase for less than £90 per month!), he said, “but there is no SEO value from the banner link” (it was JavaScript)! Astonished, I spent the next hour arguing the case for buying the coverage, but it would seem that the majority of SEOs just don’t see the value of applying traditional marketing techniques to the web – they just don’t “fit” into the SEO mindset.

What is really bizarre though is that while the optimisation industry doesn’t see the value in some less search engine focused marketing techniques, they will pay a veritable fortune for paid links. The likes of ReviewMe (http://www.reviewme.com) change up to $250 for a single “review” (which is SEO speak for a plain text link not so subtly hidden in a purpose written article). One text link. One! Not just that, but a single text link on a new page that has no PR (and will maybe only will ever receive minimal PR filtered through from other page links)!

For that $250 (around £150) there are so many different options you could aim for. While a lot won’t have any direct SEO benefit, we still need to consider traffic and branding benefits.

$250 would allow me to buy banner advertising on a niche site / forum / blog for a limited amount of time. Depending on the type of site and its subject area you could be looking at a decent amount of traffic, enquiries and exposure – certainly enough to justify the cost.

An alternative would be to spend the money on a directory listing on a site such as TheBestOf (http://www.thebestof.co.uk) – £10 per month for a year and you get a full page listing (written by your local contact), an audio advert where you can pitch your service, inclusion in a high traffic site and a direct (SEO friendly!) link back to your site. A link AND qualified traffic – that’s like SEO Christmas!

Online marketing professionals do focus on SEO a lot and that isn’t a bad thing – it just isn’t the only thing and you should be looking to spend your budget wisely and spread your marketing scope.
